Reluctant Bootsie - The baby elephant

Reluctant Bootsie, a baby Indian elephant who handlers feared wouldn’t make the five mile march to Madison Square Garden from the Mott Haven railyards, was hailed a cab. As the New York Time´s article explained, Bootsie, a teething Barnum and Baily Circus elephant, was taken in and out of the cab for the benefit of photographers, then driven a few yards. The ride was canceled when Hugo Schmitt, Bootsie’s trainer, “detected signs of nervousness in the elephant.”

The Animal Rescue League of Berks County, has a program called “Book Buddies” where children volunteer to read to sheltered cats. The point of the “Book Buddies” program is to encourage children to read while simultaneously comforting the cats. And it just might be too cute for the internet to handle. 

Missing House

A huge boulder is seen after it destoyed the home's barn and stopped in the vineyard.

"Two huge boulders sent tumbling by a landslide narrowly missed a farmhouse in Ronchi di Termeno in northern Italy on January 21, 2014. The above photo, taken two days later, shows one of the boulders after it rumbled down the hill and destroyed the barn before coming to rest in the vineyard—halted within a meter of the house.

The second boulder, hidden behind the house, stopped just short of the building. The boulder in the foreground is from an older landslide. Members of the Trebo family, who live on the farm, were reportedly unharmed."

How to Lift a Seven Million Pound, 112 year old Building? Engineers first gutted the damaged interior and then supported the exterior walls with special scaffolding as they dug down to create space for a two story basement, so in actuality the building hasn’t even moved. The entire structure is now on stilts some 40 feet in the air and from some angles appears to be floating above ground. The name of the building is Provo Tabernacle and it is located at Utah, USA. 

Misao the Big Mama and Fukumaru the Cat

12 years ago, Japanese photographer, Miyoko Ihara started to take photographs of her grandmother, Misao. One day, Iharas grandmother found an odd-eyed kitten in the shed… She named the cat Fukumaru, and since then the two have been inseparable. This touching and beautiful photos captures the everyday life of elderly Misao and her steadfast feline companion, following them as together they work in the fields, admire spring blossoms, or nap in the sun. Both friends are hard of hearing, so it is endearing to witness the strength of their connection, enacted through sight and physical presence.

“Under the sun, everyday is a good day. Another good day, Fukumaru”, Misao.

“We’ll never be apart!”, says Misao to Fukumaru. Both of them live in a tiny world, with dignity, with mutual love. Still today, under the blue sky, Misao and Fukumaro work in the fields and in these natural surroundings, where they shine like the stars.” <3
